This great site suggests 55 types of poems, so for the next couple of months,
I aim to write one poem of each type. Since this is a site relating to earth, music, and
mindfulness, I will limit myself to those topics as I write (I’ll tag the appropriate category
among those three).

The fifteenth type is the elegy – written on the death of an individual.
Here is one on the passing of a snail:
Elegy for a Snail
On that sunny day, she passed
from one place to another,
watching the rain clouds scatter
the shadow loomed and underfoot,
she was shattered, one with everything.
She was scraped away, sustenance
for someone else, another casualty
of circumstance.
She died for my wondering,
for my noticing of the passing of things
for my awareness of the frailty of living.
