Kindness challenge

My child’s school is participating in the Great Kindness Challenge – a chance for kids to do kind acts for each other and build a habit of being helpful and considerate.

The word kindness can be problematic, and as my daughter said, "people are just being kind because of the challenge." We can bring in the idea of helping each other as an act of social justice instead, as a way to connect with one another for not just a momentary hit of happiness but for the greater collective good.

If you want to try, you can do it in school, at home, at work – making it a central part of how you live. What are ways in which compassion and kindness can be woven into your day and become a new way of interacting with each other for the long term?
